Before You Meet
Video chat first
Before meeting in person, have a video call to verify the person matches their profile. SunSpark encourages video verification.
Research your date
Look them up on social media. Check that their photos and information are consistent. Trust your instincts if something feels off.
Don't share personal info too soon
Avoid sharing your home address, workplace, financial information, or other sensitive details until you've established trust.
Use SunSpark messaging
Keep conversations on SunSpark until you're comfortable. Our platform has safety features that external messaging apps don't.
Watch for red flags
Be cautious of people who refuse to video chat, ask for money, push to move off the app quickly, or seem too good to be true.
Meeting In Person
Meet in public
Always choose a well-populated, public location for your first few dates. Coffee shops, restaurants, and parks during daylight are great options.
Activate Date Shield
Use SunSpark's Date Shield feature to share your date details and live location with your Guardian Angel. They'll be notified and can check on you.
Tell someone your plans
Even without Date Shield, always tell a friend or family member where you're going, who you're meeting, and when you expect to be back.
Arrange your own transportation
Drive yourself, use rideshare, or take public transit. Don't rely on your date for a ride, especially on the first meeting.
Stay sober and alert
Keep your alcohol consumption moderate. Never leave your drink unattended. Being alert helps you make good decisions.
Trust your gut
If something feels wrong, it probably is. You are never obligated to stay. Leave immediately if you feel uncomfortable.
Online Safety
Protect your financial information
Never send money to someone you haven't met in person. Scammers often create emotional stories to manipulate victims into sending money.
Be wary of links
Don't click on suspicious links sent by matches. They could be phishing attempts to steal your personal information.
Use strong passwords
Use a unique, strong password for your SunSpark account. Enable two-factor authentication when available.
Report suspicious behavior
If someone asks for money, sends inappropriate content, or behaves suspiciously, report them immediately using the report button.
Block when needed
Don't hesitate to block anyone who makes you uncomfortable. You can block any user from their profile or from within a conversation.

Recognizing Scams
Common warning signs of dating scams:
They profess strong feelings very quickly (love bombing).
They claim to be overseas, in the military, or working on an oil rig.
They always have an excuse for why they can't video chat or meet.
They ask for money for emergencies, travel, medical bills, or investments.
They want to move conversations off SunSpark immediately.
Their profile seems too perfect or uses stock-photo-quality images.
They ask for your personal financial information.
They send you links to external websites.
If you suspect a scam, stop all communication, do not send money, and report the user immediately.
